Dimapur, April 13 (MExN): A five-day Community First Responder (CFR) training program organized by Can Youth in collaboration with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) concluded with a simulated earthquake response drill at SRK Consultants under DDU-GKY, Padumpukhri, on April 12.

The second phase of the programme, held from April 7 to April 12 at the Rongmei Customary Court in Chungaizaeng, Burma Camp, brought together around 50 trainees. The final day’s mock drill exercise saw the participation of 93 students, along with master trainers and teaching faculty from SRK Consultants.

The drill commenced with a simulation of an earthquake and building collapse. Master trainers led the search and rescue operations, demonstrating essential response steps including situation assessment, locating and extricating victims, and administering emergency aid. Participants were also trained in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), gaining practical experience through demonstrations and practice sessions.

The objective of the training was to enhance disaster preparedness and response capabilities, instill a culture of safety and resilience, and improve coordination and communication among stakeholders during emergencies. The program aimed to build confidence among participants in executing effective search and rescue operations.

Can Youth Project Coordinator Nuye Nyekha stated that the initiative sought to “provide valuable insights into disaster response and management” and emphasized the importance of such community-level preparedness exercises.

The training was part of an ongoing effort by Can Youth and NSDMA to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to act as first responders during disasters.
