Kohima | October 15 : Joining others in combating HIV/AIDS in Nagaland, participants from hotels and restaurants during a “One Day Advocacy on HIV/AIDS with Kohima Hoteliers” also conveyed okay for keeping condom in hotels provided the same is distributed by the concerned department/agency.
Toward this approach, Kekrie Foundation has assured to distribute condom to hotels and asked the latter to collect the same from them or Kripa Foundation, Kohima.
The hoteliers also expressed its willingness to keep the pamphlets relating to HIV/AIDS in hotels, for which Kekhrie Foundation assured to make the IEC materials available to them.
The advocacy programme also emphasised the hoteliers not to entertain children in school uniform.
Further, it also advised the hoteliers to keep hand glove or first aid for safety in case any unfortunate casualty/incident arises in hotel.
Director of Kekhrie Foundation Bazo Kire said an advocacy on HIV/AIDS with Kohima hoteliers was organised in order to make them aware about the prevention and other issues relating to HIV/AIDS. She also sought their co-operation in combating HIV/AIDS.
As the need for more interaction felt by the participants, it agreed to hold next consultation by November.
Project officer of Directorate of Labour Yanger Aier also brought notice to the participants on the Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation Act, 1986, which said employment of children as domestic servants and in dhabas, restaurants etc. are also prohibited.
He also asked the hoteliers to go through the Act which was distributed to them and refrain from employing children aged below 14 years.
Chairman Youth Action for Resource Development (YARD) Khriebu Nakhro, director of Kripa Foundation Abou Mere, president of Nagaland Tourism Association Neisatuo Keditsu including representatives from Kohima Village Youth Organization, Police (Women Cell), Angamimiapfü Mechü Krotho were also present in today’s advocacy programme.
The programme highlighted the route of HIV transmission, services available, preventive measures and called for joint effort to combat HIV/AIDS in the state.
It was organised by Kohima Hotels & Restaurants Union, Nagaland Tourism Association and Kekhrie Foundation and sponsored by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society.
Mentionably, as per the report of AIDS case surveillance since 1994-June 2011, 3933 AIDS case was reported of which 2141 belong to male and 1792 female. AIDS related death is 552, out of which 280 are male, 220 female and 52 children.
Heterosexual with 87% topped the route of HIV transmission (2010-11), followed by PPTCT 5%, infected N/S- 4%, homosexual 2%, not specified 2 % and through blood 0%. Age distribution of HIV+ case 2006-11 is as follows; 25- 49 years- 74%, 15-24 years- 16%, 14 years- 7%, 50 years- 3% and not specified- 0%.
HIV prevalence rate in Nagaland has come down to 0.78% since December 2010 from that of 1.27% till October 2010.
