The All India Congress Committee (AICC) Observer for Mokokchung district, K B R Naidu, on Thursday said the Indian National Congress has launched the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (SSA), a nationwide organisational restructuring programme aimed at strengthening the party from the grassroots.
Addressing a press conference at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office in Mokokchung, Naidu described SSA as a “national organisational transformation campaign” launched after the AICC session in Gujarat.
“The basic objective is to build a strong, accountable and people-connected party base starting from the DCC,” he said, adding that the party intends to restructure its organisation at all levels through “collective consultations and democratic process.”
Explaining the exercise, he said AICC observers are being deputed to districts to interact with DCC office bearers, block and unit leaders, and village-level workers. “We will interact with them, take their views and ask them to suggest the right way to lead the district Congress,” he stated.
Naidu said consultations would be carried out across all Assembly constituencies in Mokokchung district. “I will meet every worker individually, take feedback and submit my report to the party leadership,” he said, adding that he would also meet civil society members and the public during his visit.
A key focus of the programme, he said, is reforming the process of selecting District Congress Committee presidents. “Congress Party wants to make DCC very functional with full powers, and the DCC President will be involved in the selection process of party candidates in future,” he stated.
The observer further said that once a DCC president is appointed, the party would constitute an executive committee and a district-level Political Affairs Committee. “We will empower him and make him accountable. If anything goes wrong, the party will closely monitor the performance,” he said.
According to him, the party aims to build a strong organisational structure from the district to the grassroots. “From district to the lowest level, we want a strong Congress base,” he said, adding that similar exercises are being carried out across the country.
Speaking on the party’s broader political outlook, Naidu claimed there is growing support for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. “There is a widespread feeling among the public and among the youth… they want to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister of this country,” he said.
He praised Gandhi’s political outreach, stating, “He is fighting for secular credentials… he fights for SC, ST and minorities and wants all sections to take part in the progress of the country.”
Naidu informed that observers have been deployed across Nagaland districts and the organisational exercise in the state is expected to be completed within 15–20 days. He added that he would remain in Mokokchung for about seven to ten days to conduct consultations.
“The basic objective is to rebuild the party and strengthen the organisation,” he added.
