Congress party in Manipur, while reaffirming its stand for the territorial integrity of Manipur, has called for a unity among the political parties to fight against the Centre’s alleged attempt to distort the integrity of the state.

Addressing a press conference at Imphal Congress Bhavan on Monday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, Gaikhangam and opposition leader and former chief minister, O Ibobi Singh insisted the ruling BJP to declare its stand.

The opposition party will also attend the all-party meeting proposed to be convened on October 22 by chief minister N Biren Singh.

Gaikhangam said that the Congress will not tolerate in case the Centre enters into an agreement with the NSCN(IM) which will affect the territorial integrity of Manipur.

"If such point is included while signing the final agreement, the Congress will fight tooth and nail", he said and added that the party will work beyond party line when it comes to the sentiment of the people of the state.

“For the MPCC, it is very clear that we will oppose any agreement that will disintegrate either today or in the future,” he said.

He then appealed the BJP leaders in Manipur to come out and stand boldly for the integrity of the state and say to the people that “people are more important than the party.” He further urged all other political parties to come out and stand united against any decision of the Centre which will affect the territorial integrity of Manipur "today or in future".

Former chief minister, O Ibobi Singh while speaking on the occasion, reiterated the Congress party stand against any agreement that will form "ethnic based administrative arrangement".
