
DIMAPUR, JULY 19 (MExN): The 32 Assam Rifles ‘C’ Coy MVCP placed near the Bridge at Tepuiki River, bordering Nagaland and Manipur, and commanded by Maj. Shubhashish Mazumdar intercepted a Black Scorpio bearing Registration No. MN-04A-5441 during early hours of 19th July, 2011 and seized 59 packets of contraband Ganza weighing about 600 kgs. The seized Ganza and the Scorpio vehicle used for transporting the contraband item has been seized and handed over to the Police at Peren and FIR No. 07/11, Under Section 20 (b) (1), NDPS Act. R/W. 279 IPC have been filed at Peren Police Station.
On receiving specific inputs, the 32 Assam Rifles ‘C’ Coy, commanded by Maj. Shubhashish Mazumdar with 1 (one) JCO and 10 (ten) other ranks placed MVCP near the Bridge at Tepuiki River, bordering Nagaland and Manipur, since 18th July, 2011. After a long and sleepless night, during early hours of July 19, 4:15 am, a Black Scorpio bearing Registration No. MN-04A-5441 turned up. However, instead of stopping on being ordered, the vehicle accelerated and seeped off towards Peren which was then hotly pursued by the Assam Rifles.
After a hot chase covering a stretch of more than 10 KMs towards Dimapur the fleeing Scorpio nose-dived into a dug-out ditch beside the road from which the Assam Rifles recovered 59 packets of Ganza, each packet weighing about 600 KGs, while the driver and other occupant (s) of the Scorpio managed to escape into the nearby jungle before the pursuing Assam Rifles could overtake them.
