MOKOKCHUNG, JULY 31 (MExN): The District Congress Committee (DCC), Mokokchung, on Friday claimed that an internal verification found that a majority of signatures attached to a purported resignation letter circulating in public were either invalid or did not constitute genuine resignations from the Indian National Congress.
In a press release, the DCC stated that it had initiated an internal verification process immediately after the circulation of a document claiming the resignation of a large number of Congress workers in the district.
According to the committee, the verification has been completed and found that “a substantial number of the signatures appended to the purported resignation document are invalid and cannot be accepted as genuine expressions of resignation.”
The DCC said that of the 61 signatures on the document, 14 belonged to individuals who were not registered members of the Indian National Congress and therefore “have no standing to resign from the party.”
It further claimed that 28 individuals “categorically stated that they were misled or deceived into signing documents, and were unaware that their signatures would be used to portray them as resigning from the Congress.” It added that these individuals had reaffirmed their membership in the party.
The committee also stated that 10 of the signatures belonged to individuals whose party memberships remain unapproved.
Based on these findings, the DCC asserted that the purported resignations “do not represent the genuine position of the Congress party workers in Mokokchung District” and claimed that the portrayal of a mass exodus from the party had been “materially undermined” by its investigation.
Describing the alleged use of “misrepresentation, deception, and other dishonest means” to portray the position of party workers as a serious matter, the committee said such actions were inconsistent with the principles of transparency and accountability in democratic engagement.
The DCC also thanked party workers who had clarified their positions and reaffirmed their commitment to the Congress. It maintained that the party remained committed to strengthening its organisation and serving the people of Mokokchung, while urging party workers, supporters and the public to rely on information disseminated through official party channels.
