Convoy team of IRB buried under landslide, six dead

Imphal | July 6 : A massive landslide along National Highway 53 today in Manipur killed six jawans of Indian Reserved Battalion (IRB) and the toll is expected to mount as many are still trapped inside the buried bus even as seven jawans have been extricated and admitted to a hospital in Imphal under critically condition.
According to a police report, the doomed convoy drawn from 1st Manipur Rifles, 2nd IRB, 4th IRB, 6th IRB etc led by AC 2nd IRB S Ingo Singh was headed to Jiribam district headquarters to escort loaded freight trucks and oil tankers. They had just reach Sinam Khul near Kotlen about 25 km from Imphal when the landslide struck; burying the bus they were travelling under piles of mud.
Until the filing of this report, six jawans have been confirmed death and seven critically injured already rushed to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal. The source further said that the death toll is expected to rise even as the trapped bodies are being extricated from the bus buried deep inside the mudslide. The ill fated bus was carrying about 24 jawans.
