COVID -19: Nagaland bans spitting in Public with 'immediate effect'

Upping the ante to combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Nagaland has banned spitting in public places and institutions with “immediate effect.”
A notification by the Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department informed that the order been issued in view of the importance of hygiene and cleanliness in both personal and public spheres bought to the fore by the spread of COVID -19 pandemic and the “utmost need to “impose restriction on unhealthy habits that may potentially lead to spread viruses and other infections.”
Accordingly, it the interest of public health and safety, the notification stated that “the spitting of Paan/Tamul. Sputum etc. im Public Places & Institution is hereby BANNED with immediate effect.”
“Violators will be punished in accordance with relevant laws,” it added.
