Dimapur, September 14 (MExN): The Chakhesang Public Organisation in its emergency consultative meeting held on September 10 at Kohima condemned the 7 Assam Rifles for un-"provoked attack and destruction" of Happy Camp at Ketsapo Village Phek District.
The CPO in a press note appended by its president Sovenyi also alleged that the 7 AR cadres stole 'building materials and edibles' found in the camp.
“The Chakhesang Public Organisation while issuing this brief condemnation press release, wish to remind the Assam Rifles and the State Government that, like any other tribes, the spirit of Naga Nationalism have not been extinguished from the flesh and the blood of the Chakhesangs (sic).”
The note stated that the Chakesangs have not deviated from the path of non-violence and consistently supporting and following all the Naga Public agendas connected with peace and reconciliation in Nagaland. Inspite of these facts, time and again the Assam Rifles continue to provoke these peace loving people. Thus the unprovoked attack and destruction of Happy Camp at Ketsapo Village on September 6 , was repetition and recurrence of the past misdeeds and atrocities committed by the successive Assam Rifles posted to Chakhesang Naga tribe territory right from British era. “As such, late Elwin Verrier, had he been alive today, he will deeply regret for branding Assam Rifles as friends of the hill people,” it stated.
The CPO further in the note stated: “…we could not understand the logic and motive of the state Government in unleashing the Assam Rifles to attack the peaceful camp. And also we are aware that the Disturbed Area Act (DAA) has already been promulgated for the second time in Nagaland. However, such beastly and draconian act should not be applied and experimented once again on peaceful people in Phek District or in any part of Nagaland, because such exercise will only invite hatred and negative attitude of the people.”
