Dimapur, August 19 (MExN): Yuva…A movement – a global march against youth unemployment today acclaimed the DAN government under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio for taking serious note of the long standing pending issues on Highway Act of 1967 and Land Acquisition Policy to be legislating for development in the coming assembly.
Yuva…A movement, general secretary Kiqheho Zhimomi, in a press release stated that in this regard, the entire development solely depends on land, therefore any political party while governing the state should take up the land issue on priority to achieve development for welfare of the state. The matter is a problem since, in our State the lands belong to individuals and the villagers and there is no government’s land, and on top of that Right to Property and Article 371 has protected the land of the land owners, the note stated.
Therefore, the Yuva suggested that while imposing the Highway Act of 1967 and Legislating the Land Acquisition Act, why not pay the compensation of land whenever the government requires, at the same time all the land owners should part the land on a reasonable amount whenever the government need, since the ownership of land cannot be denied or undermined by anyone and also the development cannot be stopped at any cost.
The note also highlighted that way back in 1967, there was only one lane road. Also no demarcation was laid to protect the highway land and state high ways as a result of this, the land owners planted trees, constructed buildings etc and most of the lands are also sold to others within the parameter of National Highway and State Highway and which cannot be denied at all. “The matter is running 45 years where the Government and the land owners was not aware and the development was done and also the lands sold and purchased have all been registered in the court and now has become issues,” further stated the note.
Therefore, the Yuva called upon all the political parties and NGOs, wise people and right thinking people should come forward to solve the problems for the development and bright future of Nagaland.
