Dimapur DLAC reviews food safety measures in quarterly meeting

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 10 (MExN): The third quarterly meeting of the District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) for Safe Food and Healthy Diets was held on October 9 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Dr Tinojongshi Chang.

Chairing the meeting, Dr. Chang, who is also the Chairman of DLAC, acknowledged the Food Safety Administration for its routine monitoring activities and encouraged the team to further promote hygiene and safety through regular inspections and public awareness campaigns.

Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur, and Vice Chairman of DLAC, Dr T. Yetovi Tuccu, delivered the welcome address and emphasised the importance of food safety in daily life, quoting, “You are what you eat and drink.”

Designated Officer (Food Safety) and Member Secretary of DLAC, Pelerieno Kehie, presented a report on Food Safety activities undertaken since the last committee meeting. Department-wise roles in ensuring food safety were discussed, and the necessary measures to be taken by the respective departments for promoting food safety were highlighted.

The meeting also deliberated on pressing food safety issues to be documented for effective implementation.

The session was attended by officials from various departments, including the Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner from the District Administration; Chief Medical Officer and Food Safety officials from the Medical Department; Functional Manager from Industries and Commerce; CDPO from Social Welfare; JEO from Education; SDAO from Agriculture; Civil Supplies officials; and General Manager representing Food Business Operators (FBOs) and the hotel sector.

In his concluding remarks, the Chairman advised the Food Safety team to intensify inspection of hotels, restaurants, and other food service establishments during the festive season. He thanked all members for their participation and stressed the need for continued coordination among departments in the days to come.
