
DIMAPUR, JULY 8 (MExN): The Landowners/Pattadars Dimapur (LOPD) whose land are being occupied by the army, met the Minister of Defence AK Anthony at his office in South Block New Delhi on July 3 and submitted a memorandum to him depicting the grievance of land pattdars. The memorandum and other documents were jointly signed by Chupfuo Angami, President and K. Thong (Achilo), Secretary respectively of the LOPD.
According to a press note from the LOPD, it was narrated to the Defence Minister that “the land pattadars have been sincerely paying land revenue to the government for a number of decades without getting any benefit in return”.
The Defence Minister was also informed that the State government had fixed the date for handing/taking over of various pockets of land for a number of times. “But the army personnel had failed to do so. That is why we came here to submit memorandum to you and beg your authority to kindly go through all the lines of the same and intervene the matter for early vacation”, stated the press note as narrated to the Defence Minister.
The Defence Minister assured the LOPD that he would certainly look into the matter and help the land pattadars if the case was genuine. The Defence Minister also suggested that the State government should write to the Ministry of Defence if ever the case is genuine. According to the LOPD the Defence Minister appeared not to be aware about the matter regarding the development in connection with various pockets of lands under army occupation until the LOPD briefed him on the same.
