Dimapur, June 24 (MExN): Expressing concern over a rise in crimes against children, Commissioner of Police Aotula T Imchen (IPS) on Wednesday said reported POCSO cases in the district have more than doubled, from seven in 2022 to fifteen in 2025, while the number of traced missing children reached 216 in 2025.
Speaking at the District Planning and Development Board meeting at the DC’s conference hall, Imchen called for a unified child protection system linking police, Childline, welfare agencies, schools, health institutions and community leaders, to ensure “no child is left without support.”
Highlighting local trends, the police officer noted that many missing-child cases were linked to runaway incidents or elopement patterns, stated a DIPR report. She urged stakeholders to identify early warning signs including absenteeism, school dropouts and behavioural changes to prevent children from becoming vulnerable.
Imchen underscored that clear roles, timely referrals, regular coordination and effective information-sharing are essential components of a robust child safety network.
“Building a culture of prevention, accountability, confidentiality and collective responsibility is key to safeguarding children and securing their rights, dignity and well-being,” she said.
She also detailed the activities undertaken by the Police Department on preventive awareness and coordinated action for girl child and children safety in the district.
