The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) is reportedly in a state of flux with the house of 23 members caught up in a tussle for the top post. The house is currently divided into two camps between the majority NPF— one led by Chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi, and the other led by Deputy Chairperson Imlinaro Ezung, as per reliable sources.
The incumbent Chairperson is reportedly in troubled waters with six of his NPF Councillors led by the Deputy Chairperson posing a threat to his position by teaming up with 6 BJP Councillors. The tally, as gleaned from multiples sources, works out to 11 in the Chairperson’s camp and 12 in the Deputy Chairperson’s.
There was no word from either the NPF or BJP, but the Deputy Chairperson’s camp submitted a No Confidence Motion against the Chairperson to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, on May 11. The sources said that the DC has called for a floor test in a week’s time, likely on May 18.
Meanwhile, as intrigue built up back home, the group of 12 — 6 NPF and 6 BJP — was camping at a resort in Guwahati. Chairperson Yepthomi’s group was camping in Dimapur.
The 23-member DMC currently has 17 NPF Councillors and 6 BJP Councillors. Chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi represents Ward-15, while his Deputy Ezung represents Ward-21.
