DMC to work for ‘garbage free’ Dimapur

DIMAPUR, MARCH 19 (MExN): This Dimapur Municipal Council has informed all shop keepers/business establishments/residents/citizens under DMC jurisdiction to use “plastic carry bags which are made up of virgin or recyclable or compostable plastic of not less than 40 Microns with effect from May 1.”

A press note stated that this is pursuance of the Nagaland Pollution Control Board notification dated March 4 on Plastic Waste (Management & Handling) and Ministry of Environment & Forest (MOEF), Govt. of India under the Environment (protection) Act 1986.

Orenthunf Lotha, CEO of the DMC informed that that shop keepers, business establishments, residents under the DMC jurisdiction are in the habit of throwing garbage on the roadside/drain. He added that this practice is affecting the flow of drain water, resulting in the flooding of certain areas. With regard to the aforementioned issue, the DMC has taken up a “major garbage/drainage cleaning work in its jurisdiction in order to pave the way for rain water during the Monson season.” The DMC has requested co-operation from the people in making Dimapur a “garbage free city.”
