DNSU, NWHD demand justice in alleged assault of minor in Dimapur

Dimapur, May 28 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) and the Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) have strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault and physical abuse of a minor girl in Dimapur and demanded immediate justice and strict legal action against the accused.

In a statement, the DNSU described the incident as a “barbaric act” and a grave violation of human dignity, stating that such crimes posed a serious threat to the safety of society.

The union expressed solidarity with the victim and her family and said the severe physical, emotional and psychological trauma inflicted upon the minor could not be ignored.

It also raised concern over reports that the accused had been granted anticipatory bail and demanded that the bail be immediately cancelled or revoked.

“Allowing the accused to remain free in such a serious case undermines justice and obstructs a fair investigation,” the DNSU stated.

The union further demanded that law enforcement authorities ensure the immediate arrest of the accused and initiate strict legal proceedings without delay.

Warning against any negligence or leniency, the DNSU stated that failure to deliver timely justice would compel the union to take necessary democratic steps.

“Crimes against minors must be met with zero tolerance and uncompromising enforcement of the law,” it added.

NWHD: Meanwhile, the NWHD expressed deep anguish over the reported case, alleging that the assault was perpetrated by one O Watimeren.

Describing the incident as a horrific act against an innocent child, the organisation said such crimes were a serious concern for society and must be dealt with urgently and seriously.

“As a mother body committed to the welfare and protection of women and children, the NWHD unequivocally condemns the alleged act,” the statement said, adding that violence and exploitation against minors were intolerable and deserved the strongest condemnation from every responsible section of society.

The organisation appealed to the concerned authorities and law enforcement agencies to conduct a fair, prompt and thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that the accused is booked under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other applicable laws.

The NWHD also demanded strict and exemplary punishment for the accused so that justice is delivered to the victim and such crimes are deterred in future.

Expressing solidarity with the victim and her family, the organisation prayed for her physical, emotional and psychological healing and asserted that the safety and dignity of every child must remain a collective responsibility of society.

The organisation further urged citizens, organisations and community leaders to strengthen awareness and protective measures to safeguard children from abuse, exploitation and violence.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of women and children, the NWHD called upon society to stand united against all forms of injustice and abuse.
