DNSU urges urgent probe into Indigenous Certificate fraud

Dimapur, July 10 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on Friday voiced concern over the protracted investigation into a First Information Report (FIR) lodged against one Nirmal Jain for allegedly procuring an Indigenous Certificate through fraudulent means and executing illegal land transactions.

While stating that the cancellation of the bogus Indigenous Certificate as a “significant step toward justice,” the union has called upon law enforcement agencies and the district administration to expedite the probe and treat the case as a top priority.

“Any delay in the process undermines public trust and weakens the rule of law, particularly in matters that directly affect the rights and identity of the indigenous people,” the DNSU said in a press release. It stressed that the case is not an isolated incident but points to a broader pattern of illegal land dealings and misuse of government machinery, demanding a “thorough and time-bound” investigation to uncover the full extent of the fraud and fix accountability.

The union further urged authorities to take immediate legal action against one Girdharlal Sharma and his associates, who have allegedly purchased land without valid Indigenous Certificates. Such transactions, the DNSU asserted, are in direct violation of existing laws and pose a serious threat to indigenous land rights.

The union clarified that while it respects non-local residents who live and work peacefully in the state, it will not tolerate any compromise of constitutional safeguards meant for the indigenous population.

Appealing to political leaders, administrative officials, and police to act impartially and without external influence, the DNSU said that upholding justice in this matter would set a strong precedent and reaffirm the government’s commitment to protecting Naga rights and identity.

The union reiterated its resolve to pursue the issue through lawful and democratic means and said it would closely monitor developments. It also urged the public to share credible information about similar cases to enable appropriate action.
