Upgrading the campus infrastructure, the new floor extension of the Don Bosco College Kohima was formally inaugurated by MLA Achumbemo Kikon, Secretary General, Naga People's Front (NPF) as the special guest.
This infrastructure was dedicated in honor of Msgr. Emmanuel Bars, SDB and Fr. Umberto Marocchino, SDB, pioneering Salesian Missionaries of Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, Kikon, who was recently inducted as Advisor, SCERT & Food Processing, Govt of Nagaland, expressed appreciation to the Don Bosco authority citing that through the initiatives undertaken by the institution, the people especially Nagas have benefited immensely in terms of education, in shaping the people spiritually and also disciplining the young minds.
He maintained that the Catholic institutions have contributed positively towards building the Naga society.
He thanked Don Bosco authority for bringing up children with discipline, sense of humanity.”
Kikon called upon the students to be serious and take pride in being a part of this college and fulfill the expectations of their parents as well as the college authorities.
Fr.Dr.Tious Varghese, Principal, DBCK, emphasized that the new extended infrastructure is not about space alone but it is about creating more rooms for dreams, more capacity for learning and more possibilities to the youths for shaping the future of Nagaland.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Pampackal, SDB (Provincial, Salesian Province of Dimapur) pronounced official blessing of the new infrastructure of the college.
“We are gathered not merely to bless and inaugurate a new floor extension but to celebrate a living dream that continues to grow, a dream planted long ago by courageous missionaries who believed in the yonder of this land,” he said.
Also speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kiyasetuo Stephen Vizo ,Governing Body Member, DBCK, highlighted the college's yearly growth and told students that the institution is defined not by infrastructure but by who they become.
He emphasized the motto "Duty and Joy" with duty first, and urged Bosconians to learn, serve humanity, live in peace, and stay in harmony with nature.
Later, coinciding with World Environment Day, Kikon along with dignitaries joined Tree plantation drive.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Lanukumla Ao, Asst. Professor, Department of History while while Fr. Dr. Xavier Mattam, Rector, Don Bosco College, Kohima invoked God’s blessings. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.Neilazonuo Khruomo, Asst.Prof, .Department of Botany, DBCK.
