Wokha, September 23 (MExN): The Land Owners' Union, Doyang Hydro Power Station (DHPS), has issued a final ultimatum to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) seeking implementation of various demands related to livelihood, employment and infrastructure development for land-affected communities.
In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of NEEPCO, the union referred to its earlier communication dated August 31, 2026, and said several commitments and assurances made by the corporation over the years remained unfulfilled.
The union said the acquisition of ancestral land for the Doyang Hydro Power Station had deprived affected families of their primary means of livelihood and resulted in economic hardship, while the project continued its operations.
The union has demanded immediate implementation of a special recruitment drive for Grade-IV posts as per the original agreement signed on February 28, 1984; appointment of local security guards at DHPS; and appointment of qualified local candidates to teaching and non-teaching posts at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, DHPS.
Conduct of examinations for Junior Engineer posts in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and other relevant disciplines at Doyang against vacancies at DHPS, with preference to qualified land-affected candidates.
Relocation of the Finance and Accounts wing to its old location at DHPS, and the sanction of additional funds for infrastructure development at DHPS beyond the regular allocation for the 2026-27 financial year.
Furthermore, the union has sought implementation of the demands within seven days with effect from September 24.
It cautioned that if NEEPCO fails to fulfil the demands or enter into a legally binding written agreement by 5 pm on October 1, the union would initiate what it described as democratic and peaceful forms of action.
These may include indefinite peaceful sit-ins or dharnas at the project site and non-violent disruption of project functioning and operations, the union said.
The union further stated that NEEPCO management would be responsible for any project operational delays, financial losses or public escalation arising from failure to act before the stipulated deadline.
The ultimatum was signed by Land Owners' Union, DHPS president Proland Ezung and general secretary Sorenthung Patton.
