Doyang Reservoir level rises; gate release imminent

Wokha, July 22 (MExN): The water level in the Doyang Reservoir has been steadily rising over the past few days due to incessant rainfall in its catchment area, authorities said on Wednesday.

As of 6:00 AM on July 22, the reservoir level stood at EL 319.50 m, according to the Dam & Spillway Division of the Doyang Hydro Power Station (DHPS), operated by NEEPCO Ltd.

Officials warned that if the current inflow trend continues, the reservoir is likely to reach its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of EL 324.00 m. To prevent overflow beyond safe limits, the radial gates of the Doyang Dam will be opened in a controlled manner once the water level touches EL 321.00 m – well before the FRL is attained.

During gate operation, excess water will be released downstream through the Doyang River, past the power house.

In a public advisory, the Dy General Manager (Tech) of DHPS urged all residents and visitors to exercise caution and strictly avoid bathing, swimming, fishing, or any activity in the river downstream of the power house during the release period.

“All concerned are requested to stay away from the river and remain vigilant,” the advisory stated.
