A water filter donated by the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Mokokchung under the Common Pool LADP 2025–26 was inaugurated at Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital on Wednesday by Nuklutoshi, MLA and Chairman of DPDB Mokokchung.
Addressing the occasion, Nuklotoshi said that water is a basic necessity and expressed hope that the facility would benefit both the public and the hospital staff. He also assured that the DPDB would continue extending support in the future wherever possible.
Emphasising the importance of maintenance, he urged the hospital staff to take proper care of the facility, stating that although it may appear to be a small contribution, it would serve the needs of many people.
Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, meanwhile, stressed the importance of safe drinking water in places frequented by large numbers of people.
He said the installation was part of the vision of the DPDB Chairman, under which water purifiers have been installed at five strategic locations including the district hospital, DC Office, SP Office, Ao Senden Office, and Mokokchung Circuit House.
DC Verma noted that many people visiting government offices and hospitals travel from remote areas and often have to purchase bottled drinking water during difficult times.
He said it is the responsibility of the government to provide basic necessities such as safe drinking water, adding that access to such facilities forms part of basic human rights.
He further observed that dependence on packaged drinking water leads to financial burden as well as increased plastic waste, and described the water filter initiative as a sustainable solution.
The DC expressed hope that more important public welfare infrastructure projects would be implemented in the future through the LADP Common Pool fund.
Dr Kilangwabang Pongener, Senior Specialist, IMDH, Mkg, said the water filter fulfilled an important requirement of the hospital and would greatly benefit staff members, patients, attendants and visitors.
Highlighting the role of the hospital, he said that despite being remotely located, the IMDH serves people from across Nagaland and beyond, regardless of community, religion or background.
Dr Pongener also pointed out that the hospital has long been supported by community contributions, with several facilities such as cabins, waiting sheds, borewells, prayer rooms and furniture donated by individuals, families, churches and organisations over the years.
He described the latest donation as another example of the community’s continued support and concern for the hospital.
Before the monthly DPDB meeting for Mokokchung district, on Wednesday, MLA Nuklutoshi felicitated top academic performers of the recently declared HSLC and HSSLC examinations from the district at the DC Conferences Hall.
The top three achievers in the HSLC examination and the top three rank holders from each stream of the HSSLC examination were honoured for their achievements.
