Members of the Dimapur Sümi Council and Eastern Nagaland People's Union Dimapur during the high-level joint co-ordination meeting held at the DSC office on June 13.
Dimapur, June 13 (MExN): The Dimapur Sümi Council (DSC) and the Eastern Nagaland People's Union Dimapur (ENPUD) held a high-level joint co-ordination meeting at the DSC office on June 13, reaffirming their commitment to inter-tribal harmony and charting a common agenda for regional progress in Nagaland's commercial capital.
The meeting, chaired by DSC President Shikuto Yeptho, was held at the DSC office and commenced with a mass invocation. ENPUD President NT Thamlong Phom led his organisation’s delegation to the deliberations, stated a press release received here.
Leaders at the joint assembly recalled two landmark institutional milestones that have underpinned the growing ties between the two bodies. The Eastern Sümi Hoho (ESH) was officially affiliated with the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) in 2023. Subsequently, through the direct recommendation of the DSC, the Eastern Nagaland Sümi Union Dimapur (ENSUD) was formally welcomed into the ENPUD in 2025. Speakers unanimously described both developments as “historic steps” essential to achieving deeper unity among the diverse tribal communities of Dimapur.
Addressing the joint assembly, ENPUD President Thamlong Phom and senior organisational leaders spoke on issues of common Naga interest, centering their remarks on strengthening the ancestral relationship between the Sümi organisation and Eastern Nagaland.
The speakers collectively threw weight behind the long-standing co-existence and co-operation shared between the Sümi people and the eastern tribes. They encouraged the nurturing of brotherhood relations and urged the populace to firmly stand for Naga solidarity while actively working toward a framework of collective leadership.
Speeches were also delivered by Hokuto Zhimomi, President of the Dimapur District GB Federation (DDGBF); Viholi V Zhimomi, President of the Dimapur Sümi Totimi Loka (DSTL); Hotoshe Chophy of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD); as well as senior leaders from the DSC and GBUD, and organisational advisors. All speakers lent their weight to the long-standing co-existence and co-operation between the Sümi people and the eastern tribes.
In his concluding remarks, DSC President Yeptho extended a vote of thanks to the ENPUD delegation and expressed optimism about the future of the partnership. He also announced the upcoming Sümi Ahuna Festival as a key community initiative that will serve as a platform for cultural celebration, peace, and tribal integration across communities in Dimapur.
The meeting follows the 74th Phom Day (Peace Day) observed on June 6, during which members of the DSC, led by President Yeptho, participated alongside the ENPUD delegation headed by President Thamlong Phom, an engagement that laid the immediate groundwork for Saturday's formal joint co-ordination session.
