
Kohima | March 27 : Children of police personnel of all ranks killed in action during encounters in hazardous situation or while on duty are eligible for assistance upto degree courses within Nagaland as per the memorandum of finance department on the genuine approval of the home department. This was stated in the annual administrative report of the department of school education presented in the Assembly session.
Over the years, the department of school education envisioned on improving the quality of human resources through qualitative improvement of education and total literacy campaign through participatory approaches. The department looks after elementary, secondary higher secondary, adult and physical and health education in the state.
The teaching and non-teaching staff covers 11 DEOs, 26 DISs, 26 GHSSs, 181 GHSs, 532 GMSs and 14711479 GPSs. Free text book distribution for the year 2010-11 has been provided to 2, 57, 023 students from Class A-VIII to all 11 districts in the state with an incurred expenditure of
Rs. 6, 59, 95, 580, the report said.
The supply of local text books printing for distribution has been fully provided with an expenditure of Rs. 99,95, 590. The supply has been made to 1, 86, 400 students during the year 2010-11.
Supply of free text book from Class pre-primary to Class VIII for the year 2011-2012 with a target enrolment of 2, 95,796 students has been projected with a financial requirement amounting to Rs. 8 crore.
The department has provided special stipend to 6956 girl students during 2010-11. 5240 students undo elementary stage and 1716 students under secondary stage availed the scheme.
Under a centrally sponsored scheme- Pre-Matric Scholarship scheme for the minority communities such as Christians and Muslims reading in the recognized schools both government and private schools, as many as 5799 students, 1382 students from government schools and 4417 from recognized private schools will avail this scholarships scheme, the report said adding that the proposal which was sent to the Government of India for approval has been approved and the scholarship will be given to deserving students in students’ individual bank account.
