Elumyo village bans hunting & fishing

Wokha, March 11 (MExN): The Elumyo Village Council (EVC), under Wokha district, has resolved to ban all kinds of wildlife hunting and fishing within its jurisdiction of Elumyo village with the objective of preserving the village's wildlife and aquatic resources.

The carrying of any hunting or fishing weapons or materials is also strictly prohibited.

A resolution to this effect was adopted and passed during a general meeting of the village held on March 8, stated a press release issued by EVC Chairman, C. Zumomo Tsanglao, and Head Gaon Bura, Phyomongo Tsanglao.

Any person violating the directives will be penalised with a fine ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, depending on the case, it said.

In this connection, the Council “sternly” cautioned all individuals or groups, particularly from neighbouring villages, against violating the directives, as it “may be compelled to take drastic steps against any person” and shall not be held responsible.

The citizens of Elumyo village are exempted from the purview of the resolution, except during the period from April to July, during which all kinds of wildlife hunting will be strictly prohibited, it added.
