Employment drive under PM-VBRY held in Chümoukedima

DIMAPUR, JUNE 19 (MExN): A regional-level event under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) was held on June 19 at L.G. Hall, CIHSR Hospital Campus, 4th Mile, Chümoukedima, in coordination with the national programme held at Vigyan Bhawan, where the Hon’ble Prime Minister addressed the national launch of incentive benefits under the scheme.

The event in Nagaland was organised with support from the Press Information Bureau Kohima under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.

The programme was attended by Robert Longchari as Chief Guest, Avile Vitso as Guest of Honour, and Samuel Das, along with employers, employees, beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Participants joined a live telecast of the national event from New Delhi. During the programme, employers also handed over appointment letters to newly recruited employees, marking formal onboarding under the scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Robert Longchari said the scheme is aimed at expanding employment opportunities for youth and strengthening the formal workforce. He stated that government jobs alone cannot absorb the growing number of educated job seekers and stressed the need for greater private sector participation in job creation.

He added that, in view of the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, young professionals have a key role in economic development. He also highlighted the importance of skill development, noting that formal employment provides access to social security benefits such as provident fund, pension and insurance coverage.

Avile Vitso encouraged employers to continue creating job opportunities and urged employees to remain committed to their work to fully benefit from the scheme. She also called for wider awareness of PM-VBRY among eligible establishments and youth.

Earlier, Samuel Das said PM-VBRY is a national initiative aimed at promoting formal employment and expanding social security coverage. He noted that the scheme provides financial incentives to first-time employees and employers generating additional jobs. A beneficiary, John Mark Rengma, shared his experience of securing his first formal job under the scheme and becoming part of the EPF system. He expressed gratitude to the government and his employer for the opportunity.

Representing employers, Bendangtoshi Jamir said the scheme has supported institutions in expanding recruitment. He informed that Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) had recruited 73 employees since the launch of PM-VBRY in August 2025.

Launched on August 15, 2025, PM-VBRY aims to promote employment generation, enhance employability and expand social security coverage across sectors. Under the scheme, first-time employees receive a one-time incentive of up to Rs 15,000, while employers receive incentives for creating additional jobs.

With a total outlay of Rs 99,446 crore, the scheme targets the creation of over 3.5 crore jobs nationwide between August 1, 2025 and July 31, 2027. The Chümoukedima event formed part of a nationwide outreach programme held simultaneously at around 200 locations across the country.
