ESMLN condemns July 13 IED blast, calls for thorough probe

DIMAPUR, JULY 22 (MExN): The Ex-Servicemen League Nagaland (ESMLN) has condemned what it termed as the Improvised Explosive Device “ambush” on security forces at Khopanala village in Chümoukedima district on July 13 and called for a thorough investigation into the incident. In a statement, the ESMLN cautioned against attempts to disrupt the “peaceful environment created over the years,” maintaining that such incidents posed a threat to the safety, stability and progress of the State.

The League expressed solidarity with the security forces and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of personnel injured in the incident.

It further stated that the prevailing peace in Nagaland was the outcome of decades of collective efforts and sacrifices, and appealed to citizens, civil society organisations and community leaders to stand united against acts that could disturb the peaceful atmosphere.

The ESMLN also urged the law enforcement agencies and State administration to thoroughly investigate the incident, bring those responsible to justice and take appropriate measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

The July 13 incident resulted in the death of an Assam Rifles personnel, while four others were injured.
