On the occasion of the 42nd Naga Republic Day, the NSCN-K (Niki group) celebrated the event at their Cease Fire Supervisory Board (CFSB) office in Padumpukhuri, Dimapur on March 21.

Gen Niki Sumi (Retd), President of the group in his speech highlighted the beginnings of Naga Nationalism, wherein the NNC as the torch bearers, tirelessly and unitedly worked for the rightful cause of the Nagas. He stated that during the last 10 years of ceasefire, 11 NPG groups have sprouted, all claiming to be the champions of the Naga cause. However, it was high time for all NPG groups to stop confusing the people and come out in the open, that only unity can bring about a political settlement, taking along the voice of the Naga people.

Niki alleged that the ‘Nagaland state government starting from the desk of the Chief Minister’s office to the village council chairman and from the bureaucracy to IV grade labourers mostly seems to be using the name of NPGs to shy away from their responsibilities to the people.’

While questioning the Naga leaders and intellectuals, if they should deeply introspect as to how the state, which was under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was transferred to the Home Ministry as it eroded the Naga people’s political rights and the prestige.

Niki implored religious organizations to show no favor or fear to any NPG's in particular, but should instead stick to religious teachings and guidance to bring about peace and unity among the Nagas, he said.

He additionally stated that the Nagas as a nation, should ponder the sixth round deadlock;  formation of RGN and the consequent surrender; NNC being condemned, leading to the formation of NSCN and its split in 1988.

Niki said that the Nagas should be cognizant of the fact that the NPGs are always on the limelight when it comes to the blame game but the matter of fact is that the causes, events and the players behind the scene are mostly over ground leaders.

He stated, ‘The Nagas along with all human beings cannot run away from the fact that we are all mortals, therefore we should introspecting leave aside our individualistic interests and prioritize the Naga national cause for the coming generations. Under the dedication of Nagas for Christ, we should proceed towards a concerted effort to attain our inherent and inalienable political rights.’

The event was attended by public leaders, members of various civil organisations, GBs and well-wishers alike.

The MIP in a press release stated that the Naga republic day celebrations was observed across all respective regions including their designated camp in Suruhoto, under Zunheboto district.
