Suspected insurgents made an unsuccessful bomb attack at the Accountant General (AG) office located in the round the clock security protected area in Imphal on Wednesday.
The hand grenade which failed to explode was lobbed by two suspected motorcycle borne insurgents in the afternoon, around 2.30 pm, a local source said.
The office of the AG is located adjacent to headquarters of the Manipur police department and close to state chief minister’s secretariat and guarded round the clock by the CRPF personnel.
The live hand grenade was picked by bomb experts from inside the AG complex after diffused at a dumping ground in Imphal’s Lamphel area by a team of Imphal police station.
Soon after the failed grenade attack, top officials of the state police and CRPF rushed to the AG office and took stock of the situation.
None of the insurgent groups owned up the responsibility till the time of filing this report.
