The Fateful Night

When Rio in darkness was searching for light,
None had foreseen destinies unquestionable might,
Wasn’t in contemplation even in nightmares,
Lo & Behold! See where nature dares!

A pinnacle of Glory, the Naga Pride,
Where the Destiny of Eight CMs were tried,
World dignitaries with affection were received,
This monument will ever remain, we believed!

From the flicker to flames, a quick transition,
All courageously joined the passionate mission,
Of ebbing the furious flames, that glittered,
Our hopes of salvaging our pride, shattered!

An obituary to a mansion with reverence,
A silent witness to great performance,
In our memory yeah shall ever remain,
With pride & sorrow, grief and pain!

No lives were lost, nor even injury;
The inferno had engulfed only history;
From these ashes, we ’ll re-emerge as ‘ONE’;
Salutations to thee, with the salute of the gun!

(On 8th February 2011 the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Office-cum-residence was engulfed by flames. This beautiful building revived wonderful memories. As a tribute to the monument which always welcomed us, I have written a poem entitled ‘The Fateful Night’).
