Tiayanger Jamir, ADC, Akuluto along with others during the commencement of the five-day residential training programme on Natural Farming for Community Resource Persons held at the KVK Zunheboto Conference Hall on December 10.
Zunheboto, December 11 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Zunheboto, Nagaland University, commenced a five-day residential training programme on Natural Farming for Community Resource Persons (CRPs)/Krishi Sakhis under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF).
The programme is sponsored by SAMETI, Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, and is being held at the KVK Zunheboto Conference Hall.
The inaugural session began with Yangermongla I Pongen, Assistant, welcoming the participants and guests.
Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist and Head of KVK Zunheboto, provided a brief introduction to the program. He highlighted the significance of Natural Farming and emphasised that initiatives like this, supported by SAMETI under the Government of India's flagship program, aim to promote chemical-free, ecosystem-based, and sustainable agriculture nationwide.
He encouraged the trainees to actively participate and adopt natural farming principles to promote long-term soil health and farm profitability.
Tiayanger Jamir, ADC, Akuluto, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, he urged the farming community to adopt natural farming practices that their ancestors traditionally followed and which are now being revived at the national level.
At the same time, he emphasised the need for producing healthy, chemical-free food, and encouraged farmers to produce and market local farm products with proper branding and labelling, establish seed banks in every village, seek support from financial institutions, explore GI tagging for locally unique products, and strengthen SHGs for better visibility and collective growth.
He concluded by motivating the CRPs and farmers to become brand ambassadors of Natural Farming in Zunheboto district.
The programme continued with active participation from trainees and stakeholders. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Visakho Shunyu, CTO (Agriculture/G&PB), who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, officials from SAMETI, participating CRPs, and the entire organizing team for their support and contributions to the successful commencement of the training programme.
The five-day training will include technical sessions, hands-on demonstrations, field exposure, and expert interactions designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to promote natural farming across villages in Zunheboto district.
