Amit Shah likely to launch FNTA by April: CM Rio

The Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority Bill, 2026 was introduced in the 8th session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton moved the Bill for introduction on the floor of the House. NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer informed that the consideration and passing of the Bill would be taken up on March 27.

Earlier, in his Budget speech, Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio extended congratulations to “our brothers and sisters of the Eastern districts on signing the Memorandum of Agreement for the establishment of Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA).”

He also expressed deep gratitude to the Union Government and all stakeholders in the state for making the “historic” Agreement possible.

“This agreement reflects the Government’s sustained commitment to increased participation in governance and achieving measurable outcome for our people in the Eastern districts while addressing the aspirations of all citizens of the State,” Dr Rio stated.

In this regard, the State Government has been working earnestly to expedite the process for formation of the FNTA Interim Body. The FNTA Bill is being tabled in this august House during the current session, he said.

Later, Dr Rio said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to launch the FNTA by April this year.

“We are doing our part. And now, everything is in process and by tomorrow, the bill will be passed,” the CM said.

A sum of Rs 100.57 crore was allocated today as the grants to Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority, which is the proportional allocation of the total divisible pool of the State development fund after netting out the statewide obligations including the non-transferred Departments.

Meanwhile, Nagaland Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2026 was also introduced on the floor of the House. 

The bill was moved by Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton. NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer informed that the consideration and passing of this bill will also be taken up on March 27.
