Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir has clarified that claims regarding compensation for fully damaged property on the proposed Foothills Road are “totally baseless and misleading,” even as he urged the state government to engage in constructive dialogue with stakeholders.
The MP’s clarification came amid concerns raised on social media questioning the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by 14 tribal Hohos, with some demanding it be declared null and void.
In a statement, Jamir said the proposed Foothills Road, envisaged as a Trans-Nagaland Highway, is a vital infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth across the state.
He noted that the Government of Nagaland has already submitted Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, seeking approval to upgrade the road as a National Highway with an estimated project cost of approximately Rs 3,284 crore.
The MP urged the state government and concerned departments to take proactive steps in restoring the confidence of all stakeholders, including the Foothills Committee members, tribal Hohos, and affected landowners.
“It is imperative to engage in constructive dialogue and build consensus to address concerns amicably,” Jamir said, adding that bridging the gap between the state government, the ministry, and landowners is crucial for the successful implementation of the project.
He emphasised that a balanced and inclusive approach would ensure that the larger interest of citizens is upheld while respecting the rights and concerns of all involved.
