Dimapur, April 9 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) on Thursday released the “Disclosure of Confession” of a former cadre of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) Jenchui Group who surrendered to its fold, revealing details of an alleged military operation carried out against the NSCN (IM) last month in Manipur.
As per the press release issued by the MIP of NSCN (IM), the cadre, identified as Lance Corporal Mathiuchun Gangmei of Rongdai Village under Longmei (Noney) District, stated that on March 19, 2026, a team of 13 ZUF cadres was allegedly picked up by Indian Security Forces from the Main Gate of Khoupum and later dropped at Old Kaiphundai, along the Agro Mile stretch of the Imphal-Jiri Road (NH-37). The team was tasked with carrying out an “offensive attack” on an NSCN (IM) outpost in the early hours of March 20, 2026, between 3-4 am, which subsequently resulted in serious collateral damage to residential properties in Kaiphundai Village.
The team reportedly comprised Major Kunglianglung (Kung), Lieut Amos, Second Lieut Angam, Sergeant Major Guangsinduan, Sergeant Major Thuagkungam, Corporal Ramthaingam, Lance Corporal Dingkam Zeme, Lance Corporal Gaithuilung, Lance Corporal Mathiuchun, and three Privates.
“After a few minutes of heavy exchange of gunfire, we withdrew from the spot due to a shortage of ammunitions,” Gangmei stated.
The cadre also said that he had joined the ZUF (Jenchui Group) with the “good intentions of serving the Naga Nation,” however, deeply regretted it. “After becoming aware of the sinister plans of ZUF, which was to create bloodshed among the Naga brotherhood, I decided to leave ZUF (Jenchui Group) and join the mainstream NSCN (GPRN) to serve the genuine cause of the Naga Nation,” he said.
Gangmei joined the “mainstream NSCN (IM)” on April 6, 2026, stating he did so “in good health and with a clear conscience” and expressed gratitude to the leadership for accepting him into the “fold of the mainstream.”
