Maligaon, October 13 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded freight loading of 1.134 million tonnes (MT) in September 2026, marking a 46.5% increase from 0.774 MT in September 2025.
Cumulative freight loading from April to September 2026 stood at 6.226 MT, registering a growth of 12% over the 5.557 MT recorded during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, the NFR stated.
In a press release, the NFR said the growth in September was driven by strong performance across several key commodity segments.
Food grain loading surged by 610% to 0.071 MT, while miscellaneous commodities, including fruits, vegetables and timber, recorded growth of over 157% compared to September 2025.
Cement and fertiliser loading increased by 295% and 200%, respectively, while dolomite and container traffic grew by 52% and 17.6%, respectively.
The positive trend was also reflected in cumulative performance during April–September 2026, with cement loading increasing by 181% over the corresponding period last year, while dolomite loading rose by 36.7%.
The NFR attributed the sustained growth to its efforts to strengthen freight operations through improved operational efficiency, enhanced coordination with freight customers and streamlined transportation of essential commodities.
