Niuland, May 5 (MExN): Global Network Group (GNG) has highlighted the growing footprint of its Atoqa Tea Factory and Estate in Niuland, while pitching tourism and infrastructure development projects in the district during the visit of Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on May 5.
According to a press release issued by GNG’s media and publicity cell, the Group, through its General Manager Tonoto Zhimomi, said Atoqa Tea Factory and Estate, established in 2021, is the region’s first Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO)-based bought leaf tea factory licensed by the Tea Board of India.
The estate, with licence capacity of 5 lakh kilograms, currently supports tea cultivation across 15 villages in Niuland, covering around 900 acres and involving over 150 small tea growers, while generating livelihoods for hundreds of workers, with tribal women forming a major part of the workforce, the release stated.
The Group so far has launched its in-house tea brand, North East Brews, with its flagship product, Nagaland Gold CTC Black Tea with Indian football legend Baichung Bhutia.
Stating that it is now focusing on tourism as a key driver of growth, GNG also announced expansion into tea tourism through “The Tea Courtyard” at Atoqa Estate, alongside plans for cottage accommodation ahead of the Hornbill Festival.
The Group further proposed hosting the first Amur Falcon Festival at Nikhekhu village later this year to promote conservation-linked tourism.
Highlighting Niuland’s tourism potential, GNG identified several sites for development, including Japan Kiyito Hill, a World War II trekking site, where advancing Japanese soldiers were reportedly halted in 1944, Kohoxu waterfall, Niuland Peak, as cultural amphitheatre-cum-pavilion at Nihokhu EAC ground and other and other eco-tourism and cultural destinations.
These sites, if supported with adequate infrastructure, could form a compact 2–3 day tourism circuit, positioning Niuland as an emerging must visit destination in Nagaland, it highlighted. Highlighting key challenges, the GNG stressed the need for improved road connectivity, particularly links to tourist sites and the district headquarters.
The Group said detailed project reports would be submitted to the district administration, reaffirming its commitment to integrating agriculture, tourism, and community development in the district.
