The Gorkha community of Kohima today felicitated the HSLC and HSSLC toppers including all the successful Gorkha students in Nagaland with Parliamentary Secretary for Law & Justice, Labour & Employment and Land Revenue Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire as the chief guest.

In a grand function organized by the Gorkha Singhadevi Mandir Sanchalan Samity, Gorkha Mahila Samity and Sahitya Kala Sanstha, Kohima here at Highland Par; six HSLC toppers, one HSSLC topper and sizeable number of successful Gorkha students were honoured with certificates.

Seven toppers were honoured with Nepali Khada (muffler), cash and citation while other successful students were awarded with citation. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kire said that in the present generation female are doing better than their male counterparts in every sphere of life, including education.

He cited an example where female outshined male in topper list of the HSLC and HSSLC examinations. He said the performance of female should be a wake-up call for the male to perform better. At this rate in future even the girls would want to have partners equal or above their status and this would ultimately lead to brain drain situation in the society with the girls looking for partners beyond the state, he said.

In this, he challenged the male students to give their best and study harder. Lauding the Gorkha community for their contributions, Dr Kire also sought cooperation from them to work together for the betterment of the community.

Stating that problems and requirements are many, Dr. Kire asked them to prioritize their requirement so that he would also be able to assist them. He also assured the Gorkha community of Kohima to complete the ongoing construction of Panchayat Hall in Chandmari soon.

Also delivering a short speech, DGP (Retd.) K. Kire congratulated all the successful Gorkha students and asked them not to rest on their achievements, saying “You still have a long way to go.” He also challenged the students to make a good decision by choosing the right line they want to pursue.
