Dimapur, July 18 (MExN): The All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) today denounced the Nagaland government’s erroneous reservation policy that it deprives meritorious students of their rankings just to give the reservation seats to so-called “backward tribes.” The Sumi students’ organization slammed this anomalous, if not bizarre, system of the government as a “reservation within reservation.”
The organization demanded to know why the government is giving the “backward tribes” the merit ranking of other meritorious students when the government had already given the “backward tribes” their own quota.
If the issue take unfortunate turns, the SKK cautioned, the policy-makers who framed this policy would be held responsible – literally. The SKK issued a statement today, appended by its President Nihoyi Kinnimi.
.The SKK assured that it is closely studying the ongoing dealings in the reservation to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). ‘Meritorious students have been deprived of their well-deserved ranking owing to the state government’s double reservation policy for the backward tribes,’ an unhappy SKK stated.
“If candidates from the backward tribes have been given separate quota, why does the government do them another favor by allowing them to snatch the merit ranks from the meritorious candidates from the advanced tribes?” the SKK queried.
“This policy is nothing less than ‘reservation within reservation which the SKK will vehemently oppose.”
The SKK reminded the Nagaland government that the system in question is nothing but a huge discouragement for students who have been toiling day and night to secure admissions to good institutes in the country.
The organization echoed a sentiment common to the public – “When the 100 % point placement reservation under state JEE was approved, the authorities would have also foreseen that the tribes other than the 9 backward tribes will raise voices against the policy. When the policy is opposed, naturally, people from the backward tribes will be unhappy with those opposing the new system, thereby birthing a discord”
This consequence is seemingly happening now, the SKK said.
When the issue flares up, the SKK said, those who framed the policy would literally be held responsible. “Before things go out of hand, it is only right to say that the government revokes the 100% point placement quota to ensure justice to the meritorious students from the advanced tribes,” the SKK demanded.
“People need an answer to this entire issue. The prolonged silence of the government will only aggravate things. On this particular issue, the SKK is fully behind the NSF,” the Sumi students stated.
