Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh on Monday reiterated that the government has been taking all measures to restore peace and harmony in the State, try to ensure the safety of all communities and also to live together as before.
Briefing the media at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal on May 22, the CM said, “The situation in the state is returning to normal.” Other than some small incidents happening at different places, timely intervention by security forces and cooperation from the public had made it possible for the State to return to normalcy gradually,” he said.
Stating that security personnel had been deployed in different parts of the state to prevent any untoward incident, he informed ‘the government has decided to propose the Central Government for sending in 20 more companies of security forces.’ In regard to the firing incident at Moidangpok village on May 21, which had led to injury of three villagers, the CM informed that security personnel conducted search operation the whole night. ‘One person has been arrested along with a shotgun,’ he added. Regarding the incident at New Lambulane on May 22, the CM informed that three persons were arrested along with two license guns.
The CM appealed to the public to refrain from mob violence, and said ‘action would be initiated, as per law, against all those persons who instigated or caused violent activities, regardless of the community they belong to.’ He urged the public to inform the concerned authority, in case of witnessing any wrong activities being carried out, so that swift action could be taken up to control it.
He further appealed to the public to have faith in the government and sought cooperation of all in bringing normalcy in the state. He urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified and unfounded information, and also to avoid any activity that would hurt the sentiment of other communities and instigate violence among different communities.
“Let us forget and forgive those things which had already happened and make restoration of peace as the priority,” he said.
