Governor stresses practical solutions for farmers

Medziphema, June 19 (MExN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Nagaland Centre at Medziphema on June 19 and reviewed its ongoing research, technology dissemination programmes, and contributions to agricultural development in the state.

According to a PRO Raj Bhavan release, the Governor was given a detailed presentation on the Centre's achievements in crop improvement, integrated farming systems, horticulture, agroforestry, livestock development, fisheries, water conservation, and climate-resilient agriculture.

 

The presentation also highlighted various research projects, technology demonstrations, farmer outreach programmes, and capacity-building initiatives being implemented across Nagaland.

Among the achievements showcased were the development of drought-tolerant rice genotypes, promotion of high-yielding crop varieties, integrated farming system models for small and marginal farmers, rainwater harvesting structures, improved technologies for Naga King chilli cultivation, horticultural value addition, and innovations in pig and poultry production.

Scientists also presented the Centre's work on artificial insemination in pigs, conservation of indigenous livestock resources, and dissemination of improved germplasm to farmers across the North Eastern Region.

 

During the visit, the Governor toured experimental fields, nurseries, laboratories, livestock units, fisheries facilities, and processing units. He also interacted with scientists and staff and appreciated their efforts in advancing agricultural research and supporting farmers through location-specific technologies and extension services.

Addressing the officials, Yadav commended the Centre for its contribution to enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming practices, and strengthening farmers' livelihoods in Nagaland. He said that "scientific research must be translated into practical solutions that benefit farming communities and contribute to the State's agricultural growth and food security."

The visit concluded with a tour of the Centre's farm facilities and an interaction with officials on future opportunities to strengthen agricultural innovation and farmer welfare in Nagaland.
