Inaugurates Academic Staff College, health science units at International University
Chümoukedima, July 26 (MExN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Saturday inaugurated the Academic Staff College and new Naturopathy, Physiotherapy and Medical Laboratory Science/Pathology units at the International University, Nagaland, at its 6th Mile campus in Chümoukedima.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor lauded the institution's two-decade journey since its establishment in 2006 and said it had emerged as a centre for innovation, social responsibility and environmental stewardship while promoting the "Catch Them Young" philosophy.
Describing the newly inaugurated facilities as important drivers of progress, he said they would help develop human capital and contribute to Nagaland's growth.
Emphasising the importance of the Academic Staff College, Yadav said no university can rise above the quality of its faculty. While modern curricula and technology are essential, he said the new centre would promote lifelong learning and pedagogical research for teachers.
He said investment in teachers creates a multiplier effect by improving the quality of education for generations of students.
The Governor also welcomed the university's expansion into health sciences, saying the integration of naturopathy and physiotherapy with modern medical laboratory science reflected the growing global emphasis on preventive healthcare.
He said the facilities would not only serve academic purposes but also function as diagnostic centres for nearby communities, strengthening the university's contribution to society.
Yadav said the institution had demonstrated that world-class educational standards could be achieved in the Northeast and were not confined to metropolitan cities.
Calling on students to become "job-givers rather than job-seekers", he urged them to cultivate entrepreneurship, innovation and ethical leadership in an era shaped by automation and artificial intelligence. He encouraged them to establish new enterprises and use their education to address local challenges in Nagaland.
Addressing faculty members, the Governor described them as architects of the next generation and urged them to use the Academic Staff College to promote inquiry, ethics and empathy rather than rote learning.
Advisor for Law and Justice and Land Revenue T N Mannen said the new facilities would provide teachers with opportunities for continuous professional development and help them adapt to changing educational needs through orientation programmes and updated teaching practices.
He said societies must evolve with changing times and encouraged both faculty and students to make full use of the university's modern infrastructure for personal growth and regional development.
During the programme, the Governor also released the university's publications.
Registrar Dr Roopam Bachhil delivered the welcome address. Speeches were also delivered by Director of the Academic Staff College Prof Zavise Rume, Pro-Chancellor Dr Utkarsh Sharma and Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University, Ziro, Prof Dr Satya Lakshmi. The vote of thanks was proposed by Joint Registrar Dr Durga Malakar.
