Performers in traditional attire showcasing a cultural dance during the 8th Cultural-cum-Freshers’ Meet 2026 held at the Railway Community Hall, Goshala, Maligaon, Guwahati on October 2.
Guwahati, October 3 (MExN): The Rongmei community of Guwahati celebrated its 8th Cultural-cum-Freshers’ Meet 2026 (Charuangcakhatni Zawthanh Kariumei, 2026) at the Railway Community Hall, Goshala, Maligaon, Guwahati on October 2, with a focus on preserving cultural identity and strengthening community ties.
Organised under the theme ‘Roots to Relevance’, the event witnessed participation from Rongmei residents across Guwahati and a large number of newly arrived freshers.
The programme was jointly organised by Rongmei Phwam, Guwahati (RPG), registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, and Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Guwahati (RCPG).
Chief guest Nilmani Brahma, IRSE, Principal Chief Engineer, Northeast Frontier Railway, addressed the gathering and welcomed the freshers who had joined the Rongmei fraternity in Guwahati.
The celebration showcased the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Rongmei people through cultural songs, traditional dances, traditional costumes, the Rongmei anthem and indigenous cultural performances, including Huai kaucmei and Pazeicmei.
The performances highlighted Rongmei cultural identity and sought to foster a sense of belonging, pride, unity, solidarity, peace and togetherness among community members.
Special guest artists from the Rongmei community, Pouh Mathiuhuam Kamei and TR Ganh & the band, also performed during the programme, adding to the festivities.
The event also featured a Talent Hunt, providing an opportunity for individual participants to showcase their skills. Mr. and Ms. Fresher 2026 were also selected during the programme.
