Two girls from Harvest Mission School grabbed the top prizes at the 5th Dorians Society Spelling Bee 2026 taking the first and third position. Ngonle Konyak of Class-7 took the first position, spelling her way to the top, while Jentiren Jamir, also of Class 7 finished third. Felix Singh, Class 7, of Lewis Academy took the second prize.

The winners won cash prizes of Rs 10,000, 5000 and 3000, respectively, alongwith certificates.

The competition, held at Kingdom Culture Church Hall, Dimapur on October 31, had 44 spellers representing 22 schools from Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland. As per the competition norms, the spelling bee was open to students of Class 7 and 8, with each participating school nominating two spellers.

It was judged by a panel of two judges— Imolangla Pongen, a former Assistant Professor, and Yupangnenla Longkumer, a former journalist. The pronouncer for the competition was Helen Ao, a teacher at Hope Academy.

Winner Ngonle Konyak acknowledged the role of her teachers led by the school principal in her preparation. When asked whether she intends to contest future spelling bees, she said, “If I have the opportunity, I will go.”

According to the Dorians Society, the primary objective of the annual spelling contest is to foster healthy competition among students while enhancing their vocabulary and linguistic skills. It also aims to serve as a launch pad for students to compete on bigger stages.

Dorians Society Chairperson Meyi Longchar stated that the contest was introduced in 2022 and has held it annually. He thanked well-wishers, who has been contributing to organising the spelling bee, and called for continued community involvement.

“Our society aims to carry on this tradition every year to develop the skills of the students, their vocabulary. We appeal everyone to support us for hosting this event every year,” Longchar said.
