The State Handloom Expo (SHE), ‘Hathkargha Mela’, was inaugurated at the Public Ground in Wokha on October 28, bringing together weavers and artisans from Nagaland and neighbouring Assam.

Organised by the Directorate of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with the District Industries Centre (DIC), Wokha, the expo is being held under the theme ‘My Handloom, My Pride’. It is sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP).

Director of Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland, Er Y Lipongse Thongtsar, inaugurated the stalls, marking the formal opening of the expo.

More than 60 stalls have been set up at the venue, including over 10 featuring participants from Assam, with the remaining stalls representing different districts of Nagaland. The expo provides weavers and artisans a platform to display and sell their handloom products and reach a wider market.

The event also aims to strengthen market linkages and improve access to buyers for handloom producers while showcasing the region’s traditional weaving practices.

Representatives of the Lotha Eloe Hoho, Lotha Hoho and Lotha Youth Hoho, along with officials from the district administration, attended the inaugural programme. The Hathkargha Mela will continue at the Public Ground in Wokha until November 10.
