New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) President Droupadi Murmu expressed her grief over the passing of playback singer Asha Bhosle on Sunday, stating that the legendary singer enriched Indian music for decades, and her music will live forever.
Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 93 on Sunday in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital.
In a post on X, President Murmu said, "The passing of Asha Bhosle Ji has created a huge void in the world of music. Her legendary career as an iconic singer has defined an era of music in India. I have fond memories of having interacted with her personally."
"She led her life on her own terms as an artist and as an individual. With her melodious and timeless voice, she enriched Indian music for decades. Her music will live forever. Her demise is an irreparable loss to music lovers. I convey my heartfelt condolences to her family and countless admirers," she added.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also took to social media and offered condolences over the passing of the legendary singer.
"Deeply saddened by the passing of the legendary singer Asha Bhosle ji. My heartfelt condolences to her family, admirers, and music lovers," the Vice President said in a post on X.
Praising the late singer's versatility, he added, "Asha ji's versatile voice allowed her to effortlessly transition across genres, mastering soulful ghazals and traditional bhajans, leaving an indelible mark on Indian music. Her timeless voice and musical legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of millions and inspire generations to come. Om Shanti."
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief in a post on X, stating, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle Ji, one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known."
Praising the singer's journey, he said, "Her extraordinary musical journey, spanning decades, enriched our cultural heritage and touched countless hearts across the world. Be it her soulful melodies or vibrant compositions, her voice carried timeless brilliance."
"I'll always cherish the interactions I've had with her," the Prime Minister said.
"My condolences to her family, admirers and music lovers. She will continue to inspire generations, and her songs will forever echo in people's lives," he added.

Bhosle was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday.
Doctor Prateet Samdani revealed that the singer was suffering from several medical complications and passed away due to multiple organ failure.
"It is sad news that Asha Bhosle has passed away today. She was suffering from multiple medical complications and died due to multi-organ failure..."
Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar announced the unfortunate news of Bhosle's passing away outside the hospital.
Asha Bhosle's son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news, saying that those who wish to pay their last respects to the singer can visit her Mumbai residence in Lower Parel on Monday at 11 a.m.
“My mother Asha Bhosle has passed away today. Tomorrow at 11 a.m., people can pay their last respects at her residence...," he said.
Her last rites will take place at Mumbai's Shivaji Park on Monday at 4 p.m..
The film fraternity is in a state of shock after learning about the demise of the legendary singer, and several of them have recalled her contributions in their condolence messages.
'Sorrowful day for every Indian': HM Shah, Union Ministers condole Asha Bhosle's demise
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday condoled the death of legendary singer Asha Bhosle. She passed away in Mumbai at the age of 92.
Taking to social media platform X, Union Minister Shah said, "Today is a sorrowful day for every Indian, and especially for every music lover like me, as our beloved Asha Bhosle ji is no longer among us."
"Asha Tai not only carved out a unique identity with her sweet voice and unparalleled talent, but also enriched Indian music further through her melodies. Her extraordinary ability to adapt to every genre of music won over every heart," he added.
The Union Home Minister praised Asha Bhosle for her singing proficiency across languages and genres.
"Asha ji, who touched millions of hearts with her voice, left an indelible mark not just in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, and many other languages, but also in folk songs," he said.
He also mentioned about his meetings with the legendary singer.
"Asha Tai's voice held as much tenderness as her demeanour did simplicity and warmth. Whenever I met her, we would have long conversations on topics like music and art. Though she may not be with us today, through her voice, she will forever remain in our hearts," Union Minister Shah said in the X post.
Paying tribute to the late singer, the Union Minister added, "May God grant Asha ji a place at His divine feet. I extend my deepest condolences to her family and countless admirers. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the passing away of Asha Bhosle, India's melody queen, is "extremely painful" for him.
"As a playback singer, she lent her voice to thousands of films and music albums. Generations of Indians have listened to and hummed her songs. The echo of her sweet melodies will resonate forever," Singh wrote on X.
Expressing his grief over the death of the legendary singer, the Defence Minister said, "The demise of Asha Bhosle ji is an irreplaceable loss for the music world. In this hour of grief, my condolences to her family and admirers. Om Shanti!"
Speaking to reporters, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said, "I shared a very close bond with the late Asha Tai for many years now. She had a mastery over all kinds of songs."
"Just like Lata didi (Mangeshkar), Asha Tai also made our proud with her singing," he added.
Praising the late singer for her dedication towards her craft, Gadkari said, "When she (Bhosle) got aged, I used to tell her to stop singing but she told me that 'I will keep singing till I am alive'. I had seen this determination in her personality. She dedicated her life to music and songs. Even when it became difficult for her to walk, she still had the same commitment towards her profession."
He said that Asha Bhosle's demise was a huge shock for her family and all others who knew her personally.
