HIV and AIDS cases increased in Nagaland

Kohima, September 3 : Nagaland has been reportedly ranked very high with a prevalence rate of 1.20% as per the estimated  report till April 2010 with infected cases of  HIV and AIDS raised to 3467, out of which male was 1902 and female 2565. Also, AIDS related death cases tolls 488 out of which 49 were children and 247 were adults.
According to NSACS report, since November 2007, a total of 309417 were blood screened out of which 9603 were tested HIV positive and 404 were mother-baby pair NVP. As per the LFA newsletter vol.5, HIV weakens the body of immune system resulting to loose the natural ability to fight the diseases and subsequently succumbs to common infections and illness. AIDS is a stage of HIV infection developing the certain stages leading to the absolute damage of human immune system cells.
Taking into consideration under genuine issue, the Nagaland Legislators’ Forum on AIDS was tirelessly working out so as to let the people of the state to stay safe from the danger. NLAF has committed at all levels particularly at the constituency level through advocacy with political leaders, faith leaders, media and other opinion leaders since last part 2007 with its objectives of mobilizing the community empowerment as key strategy for HIV and AIDS prevention.
