Home Minister denies refusing to meet Naga Mothers

Dimapur, July 18 (MExN): Home Minister of Nagaland Imkong Imchen has denied allegations and “defamatory statement” leveled against him allegedly by the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) over a matter concerning the minister’s reported refusal to meet the organization on June 18 in Kohima.
Personal secretary to the Home minister, Imtinungsang Longchar issued a rejoinder today in response to a news item in a local newspaper on July 15 where the secretary said the Joint Action Committee of the NMA made “defamatory statement” against Imchen and his personal secretary.
The rejoinder said the JAC of NMA had alleged that Imchen refused to meet the mothers’ delegation “with vague excuses when they had gone to his official residence to submit a memorandum in the morning of 18 June 2011.”
Further, the JAC of NMA had also alleged that the personal secretary refused to accept it on the pretext that the minister was not at home.
The secretary clarified – “That, 18th June 2011 was a Saturday and the Home Minister was out of station on that particular day; and I was not at the official residence of the Home Minister as he was out of station. Therefore, I have no idea or knowledge of the JAC of NMA visiting the Home minister in his official residence on that particular date.”
“Under painful compulsion,” Longchar regretted, “such unscrupulous and derogatory statement is not expected from a highly esteemed Naga women organization like Naga Mothers’ Association.
