The Headstrong Racing Club (HRC), Wokha, held the opening ceremony of the 1st Uphill Battle Tarmac 2026 and Northeast Championship 4.6 at Nyiro Range Road, Wokha, on October 9, with Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Sangmou Khiamniungan attending as the special guest.
The programme was chaired by Lichithung Murry, while N Zuben Ngullie, Pastor of Police Baptist Church, pronounced the invocation. Peter Rutsa, Advisor to the Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC) delivered the welcome address while Representatives of the Nyiro Range Youth Organisation (NRYO) also addressed the gathering.
In his welcome address, Mhao, Advisor, HRC extended a warm welcome to the officials, drivers, team members, motorsport enthusiasts and all those present at the event. On behalf of HRC, he expressed his appreciation to everyone who supported the organisation of the championship.
He highlighted that HRC was established in 2023 with the objective of promoting and developing motorsport activities in Wokha and providing a platform for motorsport enthusiasts and aspiring drivers.

Mhao stated that the 1st Uphill Battle Tarmac 2026 and Northeast Championship 4.6 marked an important beginning for motorsport in Wokha, with the club working towards developing organised motorsport activities in the district. The event is being organised in association with the Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC).
He also acknowledged the support and cooperation received from the district administration, community organisations, sponsors, volunteers, media and other well-wishers who contributed to making the event possible. Extending his best wishes to all the participants, he encouraged the drivers to race safely and fairly while enjoying the competition.
Addressing the gathering, EAC Sangmou Khiamniungan appreciated HRC for its commitment to organising the event despite facing numerous challenges. He acknowledged the organisers’ perseverance, noting that they had visited his office several times during the preparations and continued working towards making the championship a reality.
He stated that the event was made possible through the strong support of the participants and village authorities, recognising their collective contribution to the initiative.
Highlighting the significance of the competition, Sangmou said the event was not only about racing but also served as a reminder of the importance of time in everyday life. He emphasised that every fraction of a second mattered in motorsport, encouraging participants to recognise the value of time, which people often take for granted.
He also spoke about the natural surroundings of Nyiro Range Road, describing the location as a place that offers peace and mental relaxation. Expressing hope that the setting would contribute to a positive atmosphere, he encouraged participants to compete fairly, maintain discipline and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the championship.
The special guest flagged off the event, marking the commencement of the championship. The event began with registration on October 8, while the opening ceremony was held on October 9. The competition features a five-kilometre tarmac hill-climb course divided into two stages of three kilometres and two kilometres, with participants competing in three categories — SUV, Below 1300cc and Open.
With a total prize pool of Rs 3 lakh, the championship brings together participants from Nagaland and other parts of the Northeast.
