Medziphema, September 24 (MExN): The ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Fruits, Department of Horticulture, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, organised a day long farmers’ interaction cum training on “Care & maintenance of fruit trees and demonstration on pest & disease management in fruit trees”.
A press release received here stated that twenty progressive fruit growers TSP beneficiaries has been participated at Beisumpuikam, under Peren district, on September 23.
Dr Alemla Imchen, Jr Horticulturist delivered a comprehensive session with particular emphasis on scientific planting, care and maintenance practices of fruit trees before and after harvest.
The session covered important orchard management practices, including mulching, girdling, manuring, whitewashing, pollinator management, drip irrigation, intercropping, harvesting, and orchard sanitation, supported by photographic illustrations and videos to facilitate practical understanding among the farmers.
Plant Pathologist Dr Bendangsenla conducted a session on pest and disease management in fruit trees focusing on important insect pest and diseases of litchi and mango. The session covered identification, symptoms, management of the insect pest and diseases. Practical demonstration on the use of eco friendly chemicals was also done.
The farmers also shared problems related to insect pest and diseases encountered in their orchards followed by distribution of minor farm tools and pesticides, the release added.
