An IED (Improvised Explosive Device) explosion rocked Khwairamband Bazar in the heart of Imphal early Saturday morning.

Even though p

olice said no one injured, local sources claimed two labourers sustained minor injuries by the impact of the blast.
The IED went off in front of a shop at Ngari Galli of Khwairamband Keithel around 4:50 am while most of the shops were yet to be opened for the day. Police officials rushed to the spot soon after the blast to take stock of the situation.

Police officials said that there was no casualty as the blast was triggered when the shop where the IED was planted and other adjoining shops were yet to be opened for the day.

However, people who were at the market place claimed that two labourers sustained minor injuries by the impact of the blast.

While the police suspect hands of militants behind the blast, none of the insurgent groups took responsibility for the incident till the time of filing this report.

Following the blast, all shops at Ngari Gali downed their shutters for the day as a mark of protest. A protest staged by the shopkeepers was also joined by the salesmen and vendors of Khrairamband Keithel. Local MLA Kh Joykishan also visited the blast site.

In the aftermath of the blast, Imphal West district police commandos conducted a cordon search and verification operation in and around the Thangal Bazar area.
