Students on Monday stormed the office of the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Dhanamanjuri University (DM University) in Imphal and vandalized doors and windows. The students were protesting against the delay in the issue of mark-sheets even after exam results were declared long back.

They stormed the VC office as they felt apprehensive that they would not be able to apply for UGC sponsored scholarships, the last date for submission of the application is tomorrow (November 30).

The students who cleared the semester exams from the university have been pressing the authorities for the issuance of mark-sheets for the past several days while highlighting their apprehensions.

Police who rushed to the spot brought the students under control after convincing them to hold talks with the VC and concerned officials of the university.

The students calmed down only after the talk in which the university authority agreed to issue the mark-sheet immediately and to request the concerned authorities of the scholarship sponsored agencies to extend the last date for submission of scholarship applications, among others.

Talking to reporters after the talk, general secretary (in-charge) of DM College of Arts, Irom Mocha said that the students indulged in the vandalism after they lost control when the VC was not found in his office chamber.

In the vandalism, four students were also injured, he said.

He alleged that the students protested after their demand for issuance of the mark-sheets for the last many days was not paid heed by the authority.

He blamed the university authority for negligence and the shortage of staff in the university behind students’ agitation.
